A 2-day Mikumi safari from Dar es Salaam is a wonderful choice for travelers who want to experience Tanzania's wildlife without taking a long safari. With its open savannahs, beautiful Mkata Floodplain and excellent opportunities for game viewing, Mikumi National Park offers an authentic safari experience within easy reach of Dar es Salaam.
This short safari combines two exciting game drives with a comfortable overnight stay, giving you time to explore the park at different times of the day. You may encounter elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, elands, lions and hippos, along with a variety of birdlife. Wildlife sightings are naturally unpredictable, which is part of what makes every safari special.
Whether you are visiting Dar es Salaam for a holiday, business trip or short stay, this 2-day Mikumi safari offers a convenient way to step away from the city and experience the beauty and wildlife of southern Tanzania.
Your safari begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel or accommodation in Dar es Salaam, usually around 6:00 AM. You will travel west towards Mikumi National Park, enjoying the changing scenery as you leave the city behind and continue through the Tanzanian countryside.
The drive to Mikumi takes approximately 3–5 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Upon arrival, you will enter the park and begin your first game drive, exploring the open plains and wildlife-rich areas of the Mkata Floodplain.
Keep your eyes open for elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, elands and other plains wildlife. With some luck, you may also spot lions resting in the grasslands or near the road. Your guide will help you understand the animals, landscape and natural environment as you explore the park.
You will later continue to your lodge for check-in, dinner and a relaxing overnight stay.
